PLOT
As a young girl, Sen. Charlie Roan survived the annual night of lawlessness that took the lives of her family members. As a presidential candidate, Roan is determined to end the yearly tradition of blood lust once and for all. When her opponents hatch a deadly scheme, the senator finds herself trapped on the streets of Washington, D.C., just as the latest Purge gets underway. Now, it's up to Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo), her head of security, to keep her alive during the next 12 hours of mayhem.

CRITICS

Though too sloppy to hold weight as a political statement (e.g. “capital” misspelled in the opening info-dump), Election Year nonetheless manages to pack itself full of potent anxieties. Full review

Election Year maintains the nervy tension that made the first films entertaining, but doubles down on the political metaphors, overwhelming you with its soap-box rhetoric. Full review

OVERVIEW
I didn't even need someone to tell me this was a low budget movie😒. This was a poor sequel to its first two prequels; The purge (2013), The purge anarchy (2014). I initially liked the fact that the directors used the movie's characters to represent the presidential candidates of USA 2016 election. But it got silly when it came down to portraying the republican candidate (Donald Trump).

And the democratic candidate (Hillary Clinton) as this sinless saint.

You don't have to crush the image of someone to make a good movie. I mean Trump is doing that well enough by himself. Enough about politics.

- The movie centers around Charlie roan (the democrat), who was being attacked by terrorist/agents of the NFFA(the committee who supported the purge movement). I can understand her head of security taking a bullet to secure her, its his job. But she later got protection from normal civilians who where also being shot at. Its only wise for them to stay away from her if they wanted to survive😐😐. Its foolishness if everyone is trying to be the hero.

- Also people were travelling from far away just to witness the purge night.😑😑😑. They were literally travelling to their deaths.

- I still don't understand the relevance of these girls in the movie. They just died so quickly and easily.

Tobytale ratings: 6.0/10
